To boost new solar system installations, the Indian government announced up to Rs. 78,000 under the solar subsidy scheme across all the states. The maximum budget of this scheme was set up to Rs. 75,021 crore by our cabinet.
However, in the case of Assam, there are added advantages to solar system installation as the Assam state government also provides an additional subsidy for consumers.
The chief minister of Assam decided to invest up to Rs. 300 crore for this additional amount. For each household, up to Rs. 45,000 was allocated.

Solar Subsidy Offered By Central Government
On 15th February 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the updated solar subsidy scheme named PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. With this scheme, the target is to solarise new 1 crore households and help to get 300 units of free electricity every month.
As a resident of Assam, you can get a maximum of Rs. 78,000 from this scheme. Follow this table to learn the exact amount:

Solar panel installation subsidy is also available for housing society panel installation. You will get Rs. 18,000/kW of solar capacity with an upper cap of 500 kW solar system.

Eligibility Criteria to Get the Solar Subsidy in Assam
These are the specific eligibility criteria for getting Assam solar subsidy:
Solar System Type
To get a solar subsidy in Assam, you must have to install an on-grid solar system. Off-grid and hybrid solar systems are not eligible for a PM Surya Ghar/Assam Government solar subsidy.
DCR Solar Modules
In the guidelines, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy strictly mentioned that only DCR solar modules are eligible for the subsidy. Non-DCR panels are not eligible for the scheme.
MNRE-Registered DISCOM Consumers
For solar subsidy, you must be an consumer of MNRE-registered DISCOM, ie., Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL). The list of this DISCOM in Assam is mentioned below.
DISCOM-Registered Solar Installation Partners
Your solar system installation must be done by a DISCOM-registered solar installation partner. Check the list of registered vendors in the below section.
Other Requirements For Assam Solar Subsidy
These are some general requirements for Assam solar subsidy:
You must be a permanent resident of Assam
The owner of the electricity meter and the house owner must be the same person.
Step 3: From the drop-down list select your state, district, and Electricity Distribution Company / Utility. Type your Consumer Account Number and fill in the captcha code.

Step 4: Enter your email address, and mobile number and complete the registration process
Step 5: Now, you can use the registered mobile number and CAPTCHA to log in to your account
Step 6: Complete the application process for the ‘Rooftop Solar’ from your account
Step 7: After that, you have to wait for the feasibility approval from DISCOM. After getting the approval contact a DISCOM-registered installation partner for installation.
Step 8: Once the installation process is complete, you have to submit the plant details and apply for the net meter.
Step 9: An APDCL official will visit your home for inspection and after the net meter installation, you will get a commissioning certificate from the portal.
Step 10: After logging in to your account submit the commissioning report, your bank details and the cancelled cheque. If everything is correct, you will receive the subsidy within the next 30 days.
Process to Get the Solar Subsidy From Assam Government
To claim the Assam State Solar Subsidy, you do not have to make another application. As per the Assam Governor’s order, the state subsidy will be credited after the approval and credit of the central government subsidy.
You will receive the amount in the same bank account. If interested, you can read the full order released by APDCL.
