Solar Subsidy in West Bengal Under Government Schemes

The West Bengal government has introduced new clean energy initiatives in the 2026-27 state budget presented by Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta, complementing the Central Government’s PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.

While the central scheme continues to provide financial assistance for eligible residential rooftop solar installations, state-level support and policy measures aim to encourage wider solar adoption.

This guide explains the latest solar subsidy details in West Bengal, including eligibility, available benefits, required documents, and the application process.

West Bengal Solar Subsidy for On-grid Solar Power Systems

In West Bengal, the electricity tariff stands at Rs. 5.85/kWh for WBSEDCL and Rs. 5.90/kWh for CESC for up to 75 units of power consumption. It goes up to Rs. 8.50/kWh for WBSEDCL and Rs. 9.15/kWh for CESC.

The electricity charge in West Bengal is subject to constant increases. Therefore, it is high time to switch to free electricity generation with solar system installation.

If you are a resident of West Bengal, you can avail of the rooftop solar system subsidy in West Bengal for up to Rs. 78,000 as per the government scheme.

The West Bengal government has allocated ₹100 crore to promote 2 lakh rooftop solar installations across the state. The aim is to strengthen financial support for cleaner energy adoption and reduce electricity costs for eligible households.
