PM KUSUM Gujarat continues to accelerate agricultural solar adoption as thousands of farmers across the state benefit from solar-powered irrigation, reduced energy costs, and year-round cultivation. The scheme has also strengthened Gujarat’s position as one of India’s leading states for Solar Pumps Gujarat deployment and decentralised renewable energy.
Farmers in tribal districts such as Dang, Tapi and Narmada say the Farmer Solar Scheme has reduced their dependence on erratic monsoon rainfall, diesel pumps and nighttime irrigation. With reliable daytime irrigation, many have expanded cultivation to two or three crop cycles annually while lowering operating expenses.
According to the Gujarat Government, around 256 solar power plants with a combined capacity of 695 MW have been commissioned under PM KUSUM and help solarise nearly 2.97 lakh agricultural pumps across the state. Under Component B alone, 22,787 standalone solar pumps have been installed, while Component A has already signed 163 MW of Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) for decentralised solar generation.
Under the scheme, farmers generally receive 30% Central Financial Assistance and 30% state subsidy for eligible solar pump systems, with the remaining contribution paid by beneficiaries. Gujarat has introduced additional support for tribal and forest area farmers, where the state provides a significantly higher subsidy, substantially reducing or eliminating the farmer’s upfront contribution depending on eligibility.
State Energy Minister Rushikesh Patel said the programme delivers benefits beyond agriculture. He stated that the scheme provides farmers with energy and water security while reducing diesel consumption and supporting environmental conservation.
Individual farmers have also reported significant improvements. Bharatbhai Waghmare from Dang district said his solar pump allows irrigation from sunrise to sunset and enables cultivation of paddy, pulses and vegetables throughout the year.
The wider renewable energy ecosystem is also supporting the scheme’s expansion. In June 2026, Onix Renewable commissioned 115 MW of PM KUSUM Component C projects in Gujarat, strengthening feeder-level solarisation and improving electricity availability for agricultural consumers.
The programme aligns with Gujarat’s broader renewable energy leadership. As of December 2025, the state had 42.58 GW of installed renewable energy capacity, including 25.53 GW of solar power. Gujarat also reported approximately 200.48 MW of off-grid and PM KUSUM Component B solar capacity while targeting 105 GW of renewable capacity by 2030.
The continued expansion of Agricultural Solar infrastructure under PM KUSUM is expected to improve farm resilience, reduce irrigation costs and support cleaner rural energy systems as Gujarat scales its renewable energy ambitions.
