Pace Digitek has strengthened India’s clean energy innovation ecosystem by launching a battery R&D centre in India through its subsidiary, Lineage Power Private Limited (LPPL). The new research facility in Pune has been established in partnership with the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Pune. It is to accelerate the development of advanced battery technologies for energy storage and electric mobility.
The India Battery R&D Centre will focus on Advanced Chemistry Cells (ACC), including lithium-ion and sodium-ion battery technologies. The initiative comes as India scales domestic battery manufacturing and energy storage capacity to support renewable energy integration, grid stability and electric vehicle adoption.
The newly established Pace-Lineage Research Centre will undertake research on battery materials, cell chemistry and engineering. The battery R&D project will focus on improving battery capacity, cycling stability and overall performance through material coating optimisation, electrolyte design, microstructure tuning and electrochemical evaluation.
The research team will also evaluate and validate raw materials sourced from Indian suppliers. This is expected to strengthen domestic supply chains while supporting the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives.
As part of the collaboration, IISER Pune will contribute its scientific expertise in advanced battery materials and electrochemical research. The partnership is intended to bridge academic research with industrial product development and accelerate commercialisation of next-generation battery technologies.
According to the company’s official announcement, the research centre has been created to strengthen its engineering and product development capabilities in advanced battery technologies and energy storage solutions.
Industry experts expect India’s battery sector to witness sustained growth as renewable power additions, battery energy storage deployments and EV demand continue to grow. Research-driven initiatives such as the Pace-Lineage Research Centre are expected to play an important role in developing indigenous battery technologies. This reduces import dependence and improves the competitiveness of India’s energy storage industry.
