World’s Largest Energy Park Khavda Solar Park Crosses Major Clean Energy Milestones

India’s World’s Largest Energy Park, Khavda Solar Park in Gujarat, continues to record major construction and commissioning milestones, strengthening the country’s clean energy ambitions. 

Recent capacity additions by Adani Green Energy and NTPC highlight how Khavda Solar Park is rapidly emerging as the flagship renewable energy park in India. This supports India’s target of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030.

Khavda Solar Park expands towards 30 GW capacity

Located in Gujarat’s Kutch district, just one kilometre from the India–Pakistan international border, Khavda Solar Park is planned as a 30 GW Solar Energy Park spread across nearly 72,600 hectares. The integrated project combines utility-scale solar power, wind energy and battery storage, making it the World’s Largest Energy Park under development.

Adani Green Energy (AGEL), the principal developer of Khavda Solar Park, confirmed in July 2026 that 9.5 GW of solar capacity has already been commissioned at the site, contributing to the company’s operational renewable portfolio of more than 20 GW. 

Once fully completed, Khavda Solar Park is expected to generate around 81 billion kWh of clean electricity annually, enough to power more than 16 million homes, while avoiding nearly 58 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions every year.

NTPC commissions first phase at Khavda Solar Park

The Khavda Solar Park project also achieved another milestone after NTPC Renewable Energy Limited commissioned the first 64.76 MW phase of its 225 MW GSECL Renewable Energy Park Khavda Solar PV Project on 24 July 2026.

Following the commissioning, the NTPC Group’s installed capacity increased to 91,030 MW, while commercial operating capacity reached 89,950 MW. NTPC Green Energy Limited also confirmed that its commercial renewable capacity has risen to 10,786.56 MW, further strengthening its clean energy portfolio.

Advanced technology powers Khavda Solar Park

Beyond its scale, Khavda Solar Park is becoming a benchmark green energy project through the deployment of advanced technologies. Adani Green Energy has installed more than 3.5 GWh of battery energy storage, one of the largest battery storage deployments outside China and improves renewable power availability beyond daylight hours.

The project also uses bifacial solar modules, solar trackers and waterless robotic cleaning systems to maintain panel efficiency while conserving freshwater in Gujarat’s arid environment. Dedicated transmission infrastructure is simultaneously being expanded to deliver electricity from Khavda Solar Park to India’s national grid.

AGEL Executive Director Sagar Adani said, “Battery storage is becoming central,”. This highlights the growing role of energy storage in ensuring reliable renewable electricity.

Government data shows non-fossil fuel sources now account for more than half of India’s installed electricity capacity, with Khavda Solar Park expected to remain one of the country’s most significant clean energy developments over the coming years.
