STEER World Secures ₹60 Crore China Order, Strengthening India’s Lithium-Ion Battery Manufacturing Expertise

Bengaluru-based STEER World has secured a ₹60 crore export order for a lithium-ion battery separator manufacturing project in China. The development marks one of the company’s largest international contracts. It also highlights the growing global recognition of Indian engineering expertise in the Lithium ion battery project in India.

The company has been selected by a South Korean battery separator technology supplier and system integrator to provide its proprietary processing technology for one of China’s top five battery separator manufacturers. The project is scheduled to become operational during FY2027.

The order follows a nine-month technical evaluation during which STEER World’s Fractional Geometry Technology (FGT) was assessed against competing international solutions. The company said its technology demonstrated superior processing capabilities for Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethene (UHMWPE). It is a key material used in lithium-ion battery separators.

Battery separators play a critical role in lithium-ion cells by preventing contact between the anode and cathode while allowing ion flow. Their quality directly affects battery safety, durability and performance. This makes separator manufacturing one of the most demanding segments of lithium ion battery project manufacturing.

Nitin Gupta, Executive Director and Global CEO of STEER Advanced Manufacturing, said, “Securing this project is a significant validation of STEER’s technology and engineering capabilities.”

The company expects the initial ₹60 crore project to generate an additional ₹35-40 crore through aftermarket products, process upgrades, technical services, spare parts and lifecycle support. This could take the total value of the engagement to around ₹100 crore over its lifetime.

The success of a lithium ion battery company in India supplying advanced manufacturing technology to one of the world’s largest battery-producing markets demonstrates the country’s growing capabilities beyond component assembly. It also strengthens India’s position in the global battery value chain.

Industry observers note that such achievement could encourage more Indian companies to pursue high-value lithium ion battery project proposal opportunities in overseas markets. As demand for electric vehicles and battery energy storage systems continues to increase, advanced manufacturing technologies are expected to become an increasingly valuable export segment for Indian engineering companies.
